Parliament hosts
Parliamentary Day on 2 September at the UN World Conference Against Racism
Parliamentarians from various countries across
the world will assemble in Durban on Sunday, 2 September 2001, under the auspices of the
Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for a meeting to stimulate an exchange of ideas on a
number of critical issues relating to eradication of all forms of racism and
discrimination on which Parliaments and their Members can take concrete action.
The one day event entitled: Action of
Parliaments and their Members in the Fight Against Racism, Racial Discrimination,
Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, is part of the activities of the UN WCAR and takes
place within the premises of the International Conference Centre.
The Conference will draw together a number of
MPs with diverse backgrounds and experiences to provide a parliamentary dimension to the
inter - governmental negotiations and discussions on the Declaration and Programme of
Action, expected to arise from deliberations of the WCAR.
