Accreditation
General
The Conference will be attended by delegates from
states and representatives from accredited organisations all over the World. It is
therefore necessary to design and provide accreditation facilities of a high standard. The
accreditation process has two major functions to perform.
To ensure that a high level of security is
maintained throughout the Conference
To ensure a process whereby delegates will
be enabled to go about conference business without delays and administrative red tape
created by the accreditation process
The WCAR will be attended by the
delegates/representatives from:
- States
- Associated states of the Regional Commissions
- UN Specialized Agencies/Programs
- Inter Governmental Organisations
- Other organisations/institutions
- Non Governmental Organisations
- Media
The accreditation process will consist of two broad
overlapping phases:
The pre-conference process:
This process will run from date until 24
August 2001.
The success of the accreditation process to
avoid delays and ensure an easy flow of applicants during the live process, depends
heavily on a high percentage of applications processed in the pre-conference phase.
Delegates must register by 15 July 2001.
The live conference process:
The live process will be in operation from 25 August
2001 to 7 September 2001. The venue will be at Hall 6, ICC Durban. Processing hours will
be daily from 08:00 to 20:00.

Host country support staff (RSA Government
Officials)
The process for the involvement of South African government
support staff is coordinated by the DFA through designated interdepartmental
representatives.
Service Providers
Service Providers (hotels, transport companies, etc) will
be appointed on an official basis through the existing official government tender
procedures. Application for accreditation will be coordinated through designated nodal
points and managers in the respective companies. Application forms will only be accepted
from these officially approved channels. No individual applications will be considered.
Host country (RSA Government Officials) and RSA Service
Providers are strongly advised to apply for accreditation during the pre-conference
process as priority will be given to foreign applicants during the live process, which
might result in unnecessary delays for the RSA applicants.
The production of accreditation passes will take place in
the RSA and all passes will be issued in Durban (prepared in the pre-conference
accreditation process) as from 25 August 2001, Hall 6, ICC Durban. Passes prepared during
the live accreditation process will be issued on site as from 25 August 2001. It must be
noted that a 24 hour waiting period will be experienced for RSA service providers and all
media (RSA and foreign) to make provision for processing delays during the live process.
Passes will only be issued on the presentation of valid credentials such as letters of
assignment, passports, ID documents (RSA).
