Black Leadership Forum's Symposium on Racism in the United States

African American experts, leaders, and Congressional Black Caucus members will discuss racism in a town hall type of event.

Dr. Yvonne Scruggs-Leftwich, Black Leadership Forum, will moderate. Participants include: Dr. Dorothy I. Height, National Council of Negro Women, Elaine R. Jones, Esq., Legal Defense and Education Fund, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, Rev. James Orange, Africa African American Renaissance, Ms. Melanie Campbell, National Coalition On Black Civic Participation, Dr. William Spriggs, National Urban League, Mr. Hilary Shelton, NAACP, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

When: 1:00-3:00 PM, Friday August 31, 2001

Where: Durban City Hall

Why: To present the perspective of African American leaders on the matter of Racism, within the context of the United States experience and then, as related to world wide efforts to eradicate the effects of racism, both lingering and contemporary. It is intended as an opportunity for Black U.S. leaders - political, social, and otherwise - to weigh in with their anti-racism agenda, while simultaneously setting the stage and highlighting the path for Post-WCAR continuity.
