Telecommunications
The following communications facilities will be available
on a commercial basis at the ICC and the hotels in Durban:
- Telephone service for national and international calls.
- Facsimile services.
- Postal services.
Public telephones are located throughout the ICC and DEC. Phone cards can be purchased
in the ICC, TELKOM Offices and hotels. Facsimile and telephone services are available on a
commercial basis.

countrys international telecommunications operator (ITO) or diplomatic
representative in South Africa to provide its requirements in writing to:

Service requests should contain the following information:
- Delegation/Requester name
- Place where the service is to be installed
- Time during which the service will be required
- Contact point in South Africa (Name, telephone number)
- Form of payment
Form of Payment - Current Account
Delegations should be accredited/supported by their ITO which should make the necessary
arrangements with TELKOM SA.
If an operator has no direct relationship with TELKOM SA, it should ask another
countrys ITO to handle traffic for South Africa and make appropriate arrangements
for payments.
Alternatively, a request for local billing from a diplomatic/consular representative
office is acceptable.
Cellular Telephones
The mobile cellular telephone services in South Africa are not operated by TELKOM SA
but by two private cellular network companies VODACOM and MTN. Both are using the
GSM standard and other fax, data transmission and voice mail, in addition to the regular
voice transmission service.
Cellular phones may be rented from a number of service providers with rental points in
all headquarters hotels, at the Convention Centre and at the Durban International Airport.
Radio
The South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority can allocate HF, VHF and UHF
frequencies for the temporary use of Delegations requiring them.
